Back up Host are volunteers , assisting the staff team at Sister Eveleen Retreat House in case of sickness, emergency or unavailability to provide the presence and assistance needed on arranged times and so support the kaupapa of Sister Eveleen Retreat House:
Create and maintain a contemplative environment for guests
Welcome Guests and Visitors and provide thorough induction on arrival.
Model the contemplative approach and kaupapa of the house through work and life at the house.
This can involve the following tasks (arranged with either Director or Resident Host):
For overnight guests:
Welcoming guests
Briefing guests about the house (kaupapa and health and safety) when checking-in
Back up Hosts stay the night (room is provided) and so provide presence
Some housekeeping
During retreats:
prepare breakfast (put out all items), warming up and serving prepared dinners
checking that kitchen is clean at the end of the day (retreatants assist)
stay the night (room provided)
Back-up hosts will have their own room and aart of the tasks above have free time at the house. They are encouraged and invited to join in the rhythm of prayer.
Back-up hosts are not expected to make operational decisions or take on any responsibilities outside of general day-to-day tasks.
All Back-up Hosts will be provided with training for their role.
