Pearl of Great Price: Introduction to Christian Meditation

This retreat provides an opportunity for those interested in finding out about Christian meditation, to experience the practice in a small group, learn about its origins, and discover its relevance as a form of prayer for the contemporary world. Your facilitators will be former national coordinator of the NZ Community for Chrisitan Meditation Fr Peter Murphy, and SERH Director Eddie O'Connor. This retreat will be held in full silence, and follow a regular rhythm of prayer and meditation, shared home-cooked meals, and instruction in the practice of meditation. This retreat is perfect for anyone looking to learn more about Christian meditation and does not require any prior experience or instruction.

When:  Friday, April 21, 7 pm - Sunday, April 23, 1:30 pm (approx).

Cost: $240 (if you'd like to come but the cost is prohibitive, please get in touch as we may be able to bring the cost down for you).

About the Facilitators:

Fr Peter Murphy is a priest of the Auckland Catholic Diocese and in 2020 celebrated his Golden Jubilee of Ordination. He has been in parish ministry for most of those years having just come from Papakura in South Auckland. He is the past national co-ordinator for the NZ Community for Christian Meditation. Meditation with children and young people has been a key focus of his priestly ministry.

Eddie O'Connor is the Director of Sister Eveleen Retreat House. He has been in his role for three years and facilitated or contributed to nearly 30 retreats during that time. Eddie is a Spiritual Director in the tradition of St Ignatius. His passion is reimagining the monastic and ancient practices of Christian spirituality in a way modern people can connect with. When Eddie is not running retreats he can usually be found writing, and is currently working on an adaptation of the Spiritual Exercises of St Ignatius.

About Sister Eveleen Retreat House: Sister Eveleen Retreat House (SERH) is a Christian retreat centre nestled among the native trees on Scarborough Hill, Christchurch. It is owned by the Anglican Diocese but is run ecumenically. It was bequeathed to the church by Sister Eveleen in 1939. 

Please note that there is no parking on Whitewash Head Road. You will need to park down by the waterfront and walk to the house. Assistance can be provided if required.
